HEV (Hepatitis E Virus)
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a non-enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus identified in 1990. Infection with HEV induces acute or sub-clinical liver diseases similar to hepatitis A. Hepatitis E is an enterically transmitted infection that is typically self-limited. It is caused by the hepatitis E virus (HEV) and is spread by fecally contaminated water within endemic areas. Hepatitis E has been associated with chronic hepatitis in solid-organ transplant recipients, patients infected by HIV, and an individual on rituximab treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
