Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is a kind of antibody consisting of two heavy chains (ε chain) and two light chains. IgE antibodies are found in the lungs, skin, and mucous membranes. They are associated mainly with allergic reactions and parasitic infections. Ig E primes the IgE-mediated allergic response by binding to Fc receptors found on the surface of mast cells and basophils. It is showed that IgE level also increases when infected by parasites such as hookworms, Schistosoma mansoni, Necator americanus, and nematodes in human.
