MPO: (Myeloperoxidase)
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a human enzyme in the azurophilic granules of neutrophils and in the lysosomes of monocytes. It has been linked to prothrombotic oxidized lipid production, plaque instability, lipid-laden soft plaque creation and vasoconstriction from nitrous oxide depletion. Elevated MPO levels independently predict the increased risk of major adverse cardiac events including MI, reinfarction, need for revascularization, or death at 30 days and 6 months, even among those with negative cardiac troponin I and T.
