Trimethoprim

Rapid CDIATM Trimethoprim kits are intended for qualitative detection of Trimethoprim in milk samples.

Trimethoprim (TMP) is an antibiotic used mainly in the treatment of bladder infections. Common side effects include nausea, changes in taste, Sun sensitivity and rash. Rarely it may result in blood problems such as not enough platelets or white blood cells. There is evidence of potential harm during pregnancy in some animals but not humans. It works by blocking folate metabolism via dihydrofolate reductase in some bacteria which results in their death. In milk a maximum residue limit (MRL) for TMP is fixed at 50 pg/kg as the requirements of the EU-Regulation 281/96.
