Rapid CDIATM Calprotectin kits are intended for distinguishing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBD) and monitoring IBD disease activity.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) causes serious complications and may lead to sections of the bowel having to be removed. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is common, a troublesome condition that reduces the quality of life but causes no permanent damage. The presenting symptoms of IBS and IBD can be similar. Historically, clinical gastroenterologists have had to use invasive, stressful and costly endoscopy to differentially diagnose between these conditions. Calprotectin is an abundant neutrophil protein significantly elevated in patients with IBD, but not in patients with IBS. Calprotectin is a simple, non-invasive biomarker that is associated with disease activity and severity.
