CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen)
Rapid CDIATM CEA kits are intended for monitoring the development and therapy of certain type of cancers, especially colorectal cancer.
CEA is a substance, which is normally found during fetal development, but may reappear in adults who develop certain types of cancer, especially colorectal cancer. CEA is used as a tumor marker, especially for cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. However, sensitivity and specificity are low. So instead of being used for screening and diagnosis, CEA tests are mainly used for staging/prognosis, detecting recurrence, monitoring therapy and metastases. A rising CEA level indicates progression or recurrence of the cancer, but must be confirmed.
