The CDIATM Cephalexin Colloidal Gold Test Cassette (Milk) is a lateral flow immunoassay for the detection of cephalexin in milk.
Cephalexin antigen is coated on the test region of the nitrocellulose membrane of the strips, and cephalexin antibody is labeled with colloid gold. During a test, the colloid gold labeled antibody coated in the strip move forward along the membrane, and a red line will show up when the antibody gathers with the antigen in the test line; if cephalexin in the sample is over the detection limit, line T is blank; on the other wise, if cephalexin in the sample is less than the detection limit, line T is red.
Occurrence of antimicrobial drug residues in food carries potential risk by selection of resistant pathogenic organisms and causes adverse effects on intestinal microflora and decreases the quality of animal products. Cephalexin (CEX) is a potent antibiotic, belonging to β-lactams, commonly used in veterinary medicine in some countries. Residues of CEX in food products are considered a high risk to the consumer.
