The CDIATM Furazolidone Colloidal Gold Test Cassette (Aquatic Products) is a lateral flow immunoassay for the detection of furazolidone in aquatic products.
Furazolidone antigen is coated on the test region of the nitrocellulose membrane of the strips, and furazolidone antibody is labeled with colloid gold. During a test, the colloid gold labeled antibody coated in the strip move forward along the membrane, and a red line will show up when the antibody gathers with the antigen in the test line; if furazolidone in the sample is over the detection limit, line T is blank; on the other wise, if furazolidone in the sample is less than the detection limit, line T is red.
Furazolidone is a nitrofuran antibacterial agent and monoamine oxidase inhibitor. It can be used in humans, animals and aquaculture.Since furazolidone is a nitrofuran antibiotic, its use in food animals is currently prohibited by the FDA under the Animal Medicinal Drug Use Clarification Act, 1994. Furazolidone is no longer available in the US. Though an effective antibiotic when all others fail, against extremely drug resistant infections, it has many side effects. including inhibition of monoamine oxidase, and as with other nitrofurans generally, minimum inhibitory concentrations also produce systemic toxicity.
