The CDIATM Methyl Parathion Colloidal Gold Test Cassette (Agricultural Products) is a lateral flow immunoassay for the detection of methyl parathion in agricultural products.
Methyl parathion antigen is coated on the test region of the nitrocellulose membrane of the strips, and methyl parathion antibody is labeled with colloid gold. During a test, the colloid gold labeled antibody coated in the strip move forward along the membrane, and a red line will show up when the antibody gathers with the antigen in the test line. Methyl parathion in sample will inhibit the binding of the colloid gold labeled antibody and the antigen in the test line.
Parathion methyl is an organophosphate pesticide and insecticide, possessing a organothiophosphate group. It is structurally very similar to parathion-ethyl. Parathion methyl is used as an insecticide on crops, including cotton. Since it is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, symptoms of exposure to parathion methyl include irritated eyes and skin, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, salivation, feeling weak and tired, headache, runny nose, tightness in the chest, blurry vision, pupil constriction, irregular heartbeat, muscle twitches (fasciculation), and difficulty breathing.
