Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a member of the Herpesviridae family of viruses and usually causes asymptomatic infection. Infection in these patient populations can affect almost any organ and lead to multi-organ failure. Between 50% and 80% of people in the United States have had a CMV infection by the time they are 40 years according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CMV can be transmitted from a pregnant woman to her baby. It is also spread by close contact with a person who has the virus in saliva, urine, or other body fluids. The antibodies present to Cytomegalovirus may be of the IgA, IgM and IgG. CMV IgG rapid test kit is an accurate serologic method to detect CMV IgG antibody for identification of CMV infection.
