EBV
Rapid CDIATM EBV kits are intended for the detection of infectious mononucleosis by detecting heterophil antibodies or specific EBV antibodies.
Infectious Mononucleosis (IM) is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, which is a member of the herpesvirus family. Symptoms of IM are fever, sore throat and swollen lymph glands. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection induces specific antibodies to EBV and various unrelated non-EBV heterophile antibodies. Monospot test (heterophil test) detects a type of antibody (heterophil antibody) that forms during certain infections. EBV antibody test detects specific antibodies against EBV. Specific EBV antibody testing is more time-consuming and expensive than the Monospot test.
