Human papillomavirus (HPV)

Rapid CDIATM HPV kits are intended to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of Cervical Pre-cancer and Cancer induced by the HPV 16 or HPV 18.

Human papillomavirus (HPV), is a kind of DNA virus able to infect humans. It is reported that there are about 200 types of the HPV, and about 40 of them can spread among people through sexual contact. Most HPV infections are subclinical, and some of them can cause physical symptoms like genital warts. Over 90% of genital warts are caused by HPV-6 and HPV-11, the so-called "low risk" HPV types.

However, based on the WHO's data, around 70%  of cervical cancer cases are caused by HPV 16 and HPV 18, which make the detection of HPV 16/18 very valuable for the diagnosis of cervical pre-cancer and cancer.
