Pentachlorophenol (PCP)
Chlorinated phenols are a group of important contaminants in aqueous environments. Among them, pentachlorophenol (PCP) and its sodium salt (NaPCP) have been widely used as insecticides, herbicides, and wood preservatives in Western countries, leading to the pollution of aqueous environments. Pentachlorophenol is an organochlorine compound used as a pesticide and a disinfectant. As one of the persistent toxic substances, pentachlorophenol is carcinogenic and toxic to plants, animals, and humans even at low concentrations. Long-term exposure to pentachlorophenol can result in endocrine disruption, hemolymph neoplasms, digestive-system neoplasms, and an increased risk of other cancers.
